What are the signs and symptoms of the condition?

When a person complains of leg pain, the healthcare provider will ask some questions about the pain. These may include:

  • the exact location of the pain
  • when the pain started
  • the type of pain, such as dull, sharp, or throbbing
  • whether the pain is constant or comes and goes
  • if anything makes the pain better or worse
  • if there has been any injury to the leg
  • what medical conditions a person has
  • what medications a person takes
  • any other symptoms a person is having, such as weight loss or shortness of breath
  • what kind of physical activity the person engages in, such as sports, manual labor, or exercise
