What are the signs and symptoms of the injury?

A victim of shaken baby syndrome may show any or all of the following signs and symptoms:

  • autism
  • bone fracture
  • change in behavior
  • cognitive impairment
  • coma
  • decreased level of consciousness
  • hearing impairment
  • irritability
  • learning disabilities
  • loss of appetite, or poor feeding
  • mental retardation
  • motor impairment
  • pale and bluish skin due to decreased blood flow
  • seizures
  • visual impairment
  • vomiting
